Upper Trovato Property Owners: Participate in our survey to help establish a Community Improvement District (CID).
Upper Trovato in Wynberg is home to more than 100 residents across 56 properties. Our community focuses on fostering a vibrant and cohesive neighborhood.
Our efforts are specifically tailored towards enhancing public safety; upkeeping of public spaces to promote a pristine community setting; championing environmental stewardship to safeguard our natural resources; and creating opportunities for growth and connectivity within our community.
Upper Trovato boasts a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Trovato House, the namesake of our suburb in Wynberg, Cape Town, was built in 1899 by Carl Jeppe and stands as a testament to the area's heritage, with streets like Visser Avenue and Stuartfield Avenue bearing names rooted in its historical narrative.
We are proud to be pioneers in residential security, operating, as far as we know, the first-ever 24/7 CCTV network in a neighbourhood with public access, ensuring round-the-clock safety every day of the year. This advanced surveillance system has solidified Upper Trovato’s reputation as one of the safest neighbourhoods in Cape Town.
Focus Areas
Prioritizing safety with 60+ strategically placed cameras, including number plate recognition, and a guard house, alongside active community engagement in policing forums.
Our community has diligently maintained Trovato Link Park and Chestnut Green, contributing to a cleaner environment and enhancing Wynberg Park.
Over six years, we've planted 1000m² of indigenous gardens, supported by the City of Cape Town, promoting greener spaces and inspiring community-wide stewardship.
Security services, camera operators, maintenance contractors, and landscaping and cleanup crews have all generated direct income from their efforts.
City Improvement Districts (CIDs), or Special Ratings Areas (SRAs), are non-profit organizations aimed at urban management and enhancement within defined geographic territories through additional levies paid by property owners. These levies fund supplementary services such as public safety, cleaning, and environmental initiatives, beyond what is provided by municipal services, ensuring improvements directly benefit the local area.
Established through a community-driven process and managed by a Non-Profit Company (NPC) with strict financial oversight, CIDs facilitate collaborative urban development, offering benefits like equitable cost-sharing, improved property values, and a strengthened community identity, thereby playing a crucial role in fostering vibrant, safe, and sustainable urban environments.
